Enlarged tonsils: Tonsilar hypertrophy or enlarged tonsils does not always indicate an infection or inflammation. Enlarged tonsils can be dangerous however if they come togerther "kiss" in the bach of the throat.

Very big tonsils: The size of tonsils varies with age and upper respiratory viral or bacterial illness. Big tonsils without other symptoms of acute illness (fever etc) are not concerning unless you are having problems breathing or swallowing. Also if material keeps getting stuck in your tonsils or you have chronic bad breath despite meticulous oral hygiene. Your primary or ENT can exam you and answer your questions.
