See bekow: This is a controversial issue. Many people (and doctors) believe that fibromyalgia is the physical expression of depression and in some cases i would agree with that too. However, many people ( in some studies over 70%) develop depression as a result of chronic pain not the other way round. This is what i see most often.

Not directly: People with any long standing pain are obviously at risk for depression fibromyalgia does not cause or directly increase risk of depression nor does depression cause fibromyalgia but might make symptoms more bothersome if you have both. Interestingly several treatments are also antidepressants but most antidepressants don't help.

No: #fibromyalgia pain is real ; commonly worsens with lying down. Chronic nighttime pain disrupts restorative sleep; causing chronic daytime fatigue. People with chronic sleeplessness ; fatigue naturally get depression. This is not type depression pharmaceuticals can effectively treat. Deep refreshing sleep needed. For this to occur pain generation from spastic peripheral muscles must be abolished.
