Herpes virus: Herpes virus type 1 (hsv 1) causes upper respiratory infections, usually manifest as "cold sores", which can spread to the skin. Herpes virus type 2 is a sexually transmitted infection that occurs only in the genital region usually manifesting as a single tender blister or a group (cluster) of tender vesicles on top of red inflammed skin. Hsv1 does not lead to hsv2 infections. Only sex does.

It is true that prior infection with one HSV serotype confers partial cross-immunity to the other. I must respectfully disagree with Dr. Kopes-Kerr: although HSV-2 does have a preferential affinity for the genitalia, it can cause infection on other mucous membranes, including those of the mouth, where its clinical presentation is indistinguishable from HSV-1.

Same: Your chance of getting HSV 2 is the same whether you have HSV 1 or not. Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs. For nutrition: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/.
