Fungus is all around: The fungus is all around us. If you are suseptible and if the exposed to a critical degree, then the fungus can occur. Usually nail fungus starts first with a skin fungal infection. If you can control skin fungal infections (athlete's foot), then this can diminish the opportunity for the nail becoming infected. Washing and drying the foot well, changing sock daily can help. Dr l.

You must know a: Fun-guy! fungi spread by spores, which don't wash out of socks. Although we're all exposed to fungal spores, only those people and body parts susceptible to fungal growth get infected. It's not a cleanliness thing. Fungi like dark, warm, moist places (like inside a shoe), so anything you can do to reverse those conditions lowers your risk of getting infected, but sometimes, you just get infected.
