No: Gum disease and heart disease share common risk factors. One does not cause the other. It seems that the scientific observation that both tend to show up in the same patients has led some dentist and mds to claim that gum disease may cause heart disease. The american heart association reviewed 500 journal articles and concluded there was no proof of this.

Probably Connected: Plaque in the mouth seems to have a significant negative effect on overall health as well as heart health. It must be treated aggressively as early as possible. Heart disease often shows no sings until a heart attack. So, get the plaque removed & monitored long-term, and also see a physician for a check-up. You can't detect early warning signs of heart disease yourself. Only your dds/md can help.
