Treatment...: Acute bronchitis is usually due to either a bacterial or viral infection. If due to bacteria, antibiotics are used whereas if it is due to a virus, symptom management is employed. Chronic bronchitis, a form of copd, is treated with smoking cessation, bronchodilator and steroid inhalers. Oxygen is prescribed if the oxygen level is low enough to warrant this therapy.
