What do echocardiogram calipers do?

MEASUREMENTS: There are various measurements made of heart structures, such as thickness of the heart muscle, or diameter of the chambers and blood vessels. A caliper is placed on the area of interest to make the measurement. Place one leg of the caliper on the anterior aorta and the other on the posterior. If you do this with the echo machine it will calculate the distance. You can use a hand held caliper also.
