Bacteria: Most wound infections are caused by the common bacteria that live on our skin such as staph and strep. More rarely, yeast and other less common bacteria can cause wound infections. If a wound infection is being treated with an antibiotic and not visibly improved within 3 days, return for re-evaluation. This is important because many bacteria are developing resistance to various antibiotics.
