A member asked:

Why would a person need a serum apolipoprotein a-i level test?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Heart risk: Hi. Apo A1 is the most predominant apolipoprotein associated with HDL (the lipoprotein class that correlates with protection from heart attack risk), and Apo A1 independently is inversely related to heart attack risk (higher serum Apo A1 correlates with lower heart attack risk). In measuring blood tests to try to assess heart attack risk, therefore, serum Apo A1 may be helpful.
