A member asked:

How can a serum diagnosed with hemolysis develop a falsely elevated levels of ch50 when conducting a ch50 test?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Test interference: Ch50 is a way of measuring "total hemolytic complement." completment is a substance in blood that destroys bacteria and other foreign invaders when triggered by the immune system. The assay depends on using complement to destroy (hemolyze) red cells. If something in the patient's sample also causes hemolysis, the assay will be inaccurate.
