How can adenomyosis be diagnosed?

Symptoms, ultrasound: Adenomyosis is endometriosis in the wall of the uterus. It can make the uterus enlarged, tender and cause heavy, painful periods as well as painful sex. It can be diagnosed based on symptoms, pelvic examination where the uterus where typically will be globular and tender, and pelvic ultrasound where the uterine wall may appear thick and have cysts. Ir can also be diagnosed on path exam of a uterus.

Adenomyosis: Although pelvic ultrasound can show findings suggestive of adenomyosis, pelvic MRI without contrast is considered the best imaging study to accurately evaluate the thickness of the inner uterine myometrium (junctional zone).
