Controversial: Glutamine is important in muscle metabolism and can get depleted during intense exercise or athletic activity. Supplementation with glutamine was shown in small physiologic studies to enhance exercise tolerance/stamina. Whether this translates to enhanced athletic ability could be a different story. One factor that plays into the athlete's performance is ability to withstand rigors of training.
