Sometimes inherited: Certain causes of congestive heart failure are inherited (example genetic enzyme deficiencies leading to dilated cardiomyopathy or hypertension which can may directly or indirectly lead to chf). CHF has multiple other causes including acquired injuries to the heart (like in coronary disease) wherein genetics play a role as one of the risks.
