In large part, no.: There are inherited factors that will make a person at high risk for heart disease (atherosclerotic disease). These include abnormal cholesterol profile, diabetes mellitus, family history of heart disease at young age, essential hypertension. So-called environmental factors, such as smoking, obesity, chronic stress, are also important. Aging starts in your twenties. Start a healthy lifestyle today.

Heart disease: There are various kinds of inherited heart disease. Some of them present exactly the same as acquired heart disease of the same type and others are different. The inherited terminology means that particular diagnosis is associated with genetic carriage. For instance there is a familial dilated cardiomyopathy which looks the same as acquired dilated cardiomyopathy.
