Digestion: Salivary glands secrete saliva which helps the soft mass of chewed food go down the esophagus easily. Saliva contains enzymes which help break down food. Saliva production may be pharmacologically stimulated by pilocarpin, & cevimeline; suppressed by tricyclic antidepressants, ssri, & some antihypertensives.
