When are salivary glands activated?

Something in mouth: Usually they are activated when we put something in the mouth or when we think of or smell good food.

Several senses: We start salivating when we smell food, and we respond by salivating at the sight of food as well. It reaches the highest amount of production when food is placed in the mouth. Salivary enzymes are the first process of digestion. They start immediately to break down proteins and carbohydrates, no waiting for food to get to the stomach to start the process.
