Are there foods that can help fight off infections?

Garlic, many more: Chili peppers, hot mustard, radishes, onions and garlic all contain mucolytics (to liquify mucus in the sinuses) garlic can kill the bacteria that cause staph infections. Cabbage and ginger have antibiotic properties, as do honey, lemon, pineapple and turmeric.
