DON'T KNOW, BUT . .: There has recently been some interest in turmeric (curcumin) the spice that is used in currie that gives it the dark yellowish color. It is noted that pancreatic cancer rates in india are amongst the lowest in the world, it is believed that it is due to its high consumption. There have been both pre clinical and phase 1 studies looking at this. If you do a search you can find these studies.

Veracity of info: What tribes and what parts of northern india? What is the source of the information about cancer rates? In general a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low in saturated fats and processed foods is important for healthy living.

Eat 2 Beat CA, Pt.5: CURRY: Laboratory studies have that that curcumin--the main ingredient in the spice tumeric, which gives curry its characteristic yellow color & sizzle--can fight against cancerous changes in healthy cells as well as slow the growth of malignant cells. Some evidence suggests that curcumin may also offer protection against brain tumors. (Ref: AARP, 5/2014)
