Sleep specialist: If you are chronically sleep deprived, it's essential to find out why. If it's due to long hours at work or play, that needs to be dealt with. If you are simply unable to sleep, see your doctor to discuss what the issues may be. If you are falling asleep the moment you hit the pillow, you are sleep deprived. And you can't "make it up" on weekends. Good sleep will make you feel good during the day.

Refreshed: Those who have had a good night's sleep should feel energetic and refreshed in the morning. I assume there are medical reasons for the chronic sleep deprivation, and those should be looked into. Obstructive sleep apnea, shift work, insomnia, medication, excessive caffeine, etc can do it. It should take you a few minutes to fall asleep. If it's immediate, you're still sleep deprived.
