A member asked:

How far from the ocean can fish and shellfish travel without turning bad?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Keep cold or freeze: To keep seafood fresh it must be kept cold or frozen. The distance traveled is not as concerning as the temperature it is stored in. Pack fish on ice or freeze as soon as caught and keep very cold until cooking it. Keeping the seafood cold until it enhances flavor and minimizes chance of spoilage. Seafood should be cooked before being eaten.
