A doctor has provided 1 answer

Predisposition: Type 1 diabetes is rare in native american populations, however type 2 diabetes is a much more significant problem with a prevalence about 16% of adults. The causes are: genetic predisposition, obesity, diet change. Native americans are about 2.8 times more likely to have type ii diabetes than white individuals of comparable age (joslins diabetes 2005).
