Seems to be a factor: The risk of type 2 diabetes is greater in cases of obesity and also with increased sugar consumption (glucose, fructose, high fructose corn syrup, etc). Obviously, obesity is related to an abundance of calories. There are some people with type 2 diabetes that are neither obese nor have poor diets, so that are other factors involved as well. Increased calorie consumption appears to be a risk.
