A member asked:

Healthy eating: are there any health reasons to not to eat carrots that look really hairy - because they have sprouted?

No: Carrots, in moderation, are a great source of vitamin a. The "hairy" appearance is actually rootlets that help the carrot take in nutrients from the soil. Carrots that don't have these rootlets have just been scrubbed to the point of being smooth.
