Usually none.: Fetal hydrops usually causes few if any symptoms. Decreased fetal movement is an advanced sign. Maternal hypertension and headaches may herald the development of ballantyne syndrome (mirror syndrome) when the mother develops preeclampsia in response to fetal swelling. This is a dreaded complication that mandates pregnancy termination regardless of gestational age.
