Normal weight loss (after initial loss of baby, placenta and amniotic fluid weight immediately after labor) is about 1-2 pounds per month. However, faster weight loss than this may decrease your milk supply. Drastic dieting may cause deficiencies of key nutrients in your milk translating to compromised nutrition to your baby.

It is important to remember, however, that you must supply your body with adequate calories and fluids to continue to make ample supplies of breast milk for your baby. Probably not.: As long as you are drinking your water, getting your rest, a slow steady weight loss is a nice "side effect" of breastfeeding. You will be much more likely to get back to your pre pregnancy weight that your non breastfeeding friends! it may take a year, so be patient. Congratulations, for doing such a wonderful thing for your baby's health.
