Short acting: Sleeping meds are only partially effective and people tend to get tolerant to them. It is more important to treat the underlying problem. Good sleep hygiene includes regular sleep/ wake hours, avoiding light several hours before bed, avoiding alcohol, caffeine and rigorous exercise before bed. Poor sleep is often a symptom of depression and anxiety which should be treated appropriately.
