Steroid inhalers: Steroid or steroid/long-acting bronchodilator combination inhalers for asthma do not take effect quickly, and are not used for immediate relief in asthma exacerbations. If an inhaled bronchodilator such as salbutamol (albuterol) used as-needed is not working well enough and Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) or similar has not taken effect, oral steroids are sometimes given. This needs to be assessed by the prescribing doc.
