Is it normal to lose taste buds after the removal of the tonsils and adenoids?

Taste and tonsils: generally speaking taste is the domain of the taste buds located on the posterior section of the tongue. Removal of tonsils and adenoids should not affect taste directly. However occasionally post operatively the taste buds are affected with symptoms of decreased sense of taste. It should resolve over the matter of weeks. If persistent I would follow up with your doctor.
