No direct role: HHV6 (human herpesvirus 6), it turns out, is a common virus that infects up to 75% of infants by age 1. It can cause high fever followed by rash. DRESS (Drug Reaction with Eosinophila and Systemic Symptoms) also results in fever & rash, but, as the name states, is caused by a severe reaction to a medication or drug. It is theorized HHV6 may look like a drug reaction and HHV6 is under diagnosed.
