I wouldn't have: The HgbA1c is at the upper limit of healthy and one fasting glucose slightly into the prediabetic range doesn't prove a thing. Repeat it next year. We're not going to initiate treatment or anything. During that year, get back into that fitness-focused lifestyle that you enjoyed so much as a teen. I'll bet you'll be so much happier that your improved labs will just be one added bonus.

No meds: A1c of 5.6 is normal. fasting glucose of 106 is in the pre-diabetes range. You need two abnormal tests to be able to make a diagnosis so as of Oct, no definitive conclusion could be made from the labs given. At this stage, you need lifestyle changes only. No need for meds yet. If the doctor talked to you about proper diet and exercise, then she did her job.
