Prenatal vitamins: Hi Jean, How nice to prepare for an upcoming pregnancy. I usually prescribe my patient prenatal vitamins because they have a little 'extra' when it comes to a developing fetus. Extra Iron for needed extra blood, extra folate (folic acid) to prevent spinal cord defects to name just a few. Some have stool softeners to counteract the effect of the extra iron.
