Is there such a thing as chronic untreated peritonitis, or no such thing, because peritonitis is an emergency and left untreated you'd be dead?

Peritonitis means: inflammation of lining of your abdominal cavity. It can be life threatening and severe, requiring emergency surgery, or not-so-severe requiring treatment, if any, with antibiotics or anti-inflammatory agents.
