A doctor has provided 1 answer

Insulin resistance: Most patients with PCOS have it as a result of insulin resistance. Since metformin improves insulin resistance, it can be a very effective medication for this disorder. I usually have my patients take 1500 mg of metformin daily, not 500 mg, unless they get GI side effects. A higher dose may allow you to get away with missing it occasionally, especially if you use metformin ER (extended release)
