Get help fast!: Initial symptoms of fe toxicity include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, & gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. Left untreated, shock, coma & death then occur. Within 12-48 hrs after toxicity develops, a child who appears to have recovered may experience severe GI bleeding, lethargy, liver damage, heart failure & coma. Even 3-6 wks after the initial event, GI obstruction & additional liver damage can occur.
