Possible Pertussis: Although a viral bronchitis can cause a prolonged cough, the barking nature of your cough suggests the possibility of Pertussis(Whooping cough). California has had a severe epidemic of Pertussis and Stockton,CA has had above average pertussis compared to the rest of CA. Ask your physician to test for Pertussis. He/she will likely have you take a 5 day course of azithromycin(Z Pak) even if test (-)
