Metformin: Metformin is the drug of choice for Type II diabetes--but has many other off-label uses. It restores insulin sensitivity, and basically "gives the pancreas a rest." Consequently, for those prone to pancreatitis, Metformin is a great prophylactic. Additionally, anti-inflammatory herbs like Boswella and Turmeric may provide more immediate relief.
