Pinched nerve: Irritation / pinching of a superficial nerve can cause that problem. There are several treatments available by prescription. While you are waiting to see your doctor or urgent care, take ibuprofen and perhaps see your chiropractor.

May be nerve pain: Nerve pain is characterized by a burning sensation. Sounds like it may be coming from a thoracic nerve root. Have you injured your upper back? Or do you have arthritis? I'd see a chiropractor who may be able to pinpoint the problem and relieve your pain. In the meantime, try an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen, or an herbal anti-inflammatory like Boswella (frankincense).
