See below: Shoulder and/or shoulder blade pain can be caused by an irritated shoulder or a pinched nerve in the neck. If turning your head in the direction of pain causes the pain to shoot to your shoulder and shoulder blade there is a good chance it's coming from your neck.

Varies: Multiple potential causes including considerations around the shoulder such as a periscapular bursitis; as you mentioned it could be related to your history of problems with the should itself in which surgery was recommended; it could be a pinched nerve in the thoracic or cervical spine among other possible causes. Don’t hesitate to be seen for an accurate diagnosis.
