I was recently found to have strep viridans in my urine. it was suggested that unless symptomatic, it doesn't need to be treated. why is this?

Bacteriuria: Asymptomatic bacteriuria basically means there is a non-harmful bacteria in your urine. Many females have a healthy amount of bacteria which lives in the urinary tract. Alternatively, strep viridans may be a contaminant, i.e. it came off your skin during urine collection. It is common practice to not give antibiotics for this.
