Maybe supraspinatus: The muscle in your upper shoulder blade is your supraspinatus. Pain there can be from injury to the muscle, impingement to its tendon (the rotator cuff) or from irritation to the nerve that goes to the muscle. You need an orthopedic surgeon, physical medicine or sports medicine doctor who can sort through these possibilities and prescribe appropriate treatment.

Scapula Pain: Inflammation can occur underneath the shoulder blade where there is a bursa. This is called scapulothoracic bursitis and can be treated with therapy, NSAIDS, pain medications, and possibly a steroid injection. Make an appointment with an Orthopaedic shoulder surgeon to be evaluated and discuss treatment options. Take care, Joe Wilson.
