A member asked:

I have a horizontal blue vein on my left areola, it has been painful to touch for 3 days. first noticed when laying on stomach sleeping. i am 40.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Phlebitis: In some women, the surface veins of the breasts are quite prominent. Any vein can potentially develop inflammation (phlebitis). Occasionally a clot can develop which leads to further pain. While this isn't the sort of clot that can cause pulmonary embolism, if it's persistently painful, you need medical care. Sleep position might be a contributing factor so, for now, try side sleeping.
