Small platelets: MPV stands for Mean Platelet Volume and is a measure of the size of the platelets in your blood. Platelets are cellular elements that help initiate blood clotting. If your platelet count is low (< 100,000 per microliter) then the time it takes to stop bleeding increases. The MPV can be a clue as to why someone has a low platelet count, but on its own it doesn't mean much.
