A member asked:

I've started cytoxan (cyclophosphamide) for my lupus, for the past week my ovaries hurt can that be from the medication?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rarely: cytoxan (cyclophosphamide) as an alkylating agent is known to cause premature ovarian failure. It also helps to reduce suppressor cell activity and does affect disorders such as lupus. Most pain occurring in ovaries result from rupture of follicular cysts and blood affecting the peritoneal surfaces in the pelvis. Direct affect causing ovarian pain would be unusual.
