Paraguard is OK: Paraguard is a non-hormonal IUD. Therefore I would say that there are other reasons for the missed periods. The brain, ovaries and uterus are all connected and function very well together. Any hormone such as those produced by the thyroid or ovarian cyst can interrupt this "conversation". Certain medicines can also change an expected menstrual period.
