This is difficult to: answer on this forum. Many babies sound congested during sleep at night, because of small nasal passages, but you shouldn't take a chance with a newborn. Please consult the pediatrician and have the baby examined to be sure it isn't anything more serious.

Hard to say: In early weeks, babies can go though a transition pattern called periodic breathing. This is the system figuring out how fast/deep to breathe during the varying states.(sleep/rest/feed/active) It can be fast panting or s;ow deep, there can be a short pause up to 10 sec. By 6 weeks this is usually less noticeable, but occasional pauses can remain. If you think your doc is clueless,get a 2nd opinion
