Not shingles?: The fact that these lesions recur suggest that they are due to Genital herpes. Don't worry about it over fifty percent of americans over the age of thirty have this infection. All different virus: Shingles (chicken pox virus), Genital Herpes (HSV virus) and HIV virus are all different viruses. If you had a lesion on the buttocks a physical exam is the best way to make a diagnosis. Blood test could be used to confirm. Most cases of shingles can be diagnosed by examination and do not require testing. HIV requires testing and would not be the direct cause of the lesion
