Any associated numb-: ness or tingling; any neck pain; any hx of any injury?? It might be something like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or the C spine lesion, causing these symptoms or a Tendonitis of one of the tendons of the wrist or hand? Try a Wrist brace which would benefit the CT syndrome and tendonitis ,etc. If no improvement after 2-3 weeks, get to see an Orthopedist. Good Luck and Happy holidays.

Nondiagnostic: Such fleeting severe wrist pain is nonspecific without other information. Is it caused by motion of the wrist? Is there a tender area? Shooting pains may be due to an irritable nerve. An orthopedic surgeon is best qualified to evaluate and advise you if symptoms persist.
