Usually no: Floaters are usually due to changes in the vitreous (gel like protein inside eye) due to protein changes that forms clumps. If you have a burst of new floaters, flashings, or a curtain coming over your vision, see eyeMD asap: otherwise most floaters are normal or due to a PVD (posterior vitreous detachement: that rarely leads to a retinal hole/tear/detachment.
