Usually harmless: These reddish bumps are usually nothing serious but reaction to acidic foods and other irritants. Occasionally they are like canker sores and are uncomfortable. See an otolaryngologist if you still have concerns.

Are they painful?: Are you sure they are new? The glands on the tongue and underneath the tongue do appear as bumps, so they may always be there. Certain foods sometimes make them appear larger and more noticeable (but not painful). If the bumps are painful, especially if they are affecting your ability to eat and drink, you should have your doctor take a look.
