How long will it take for an artificial pancreas to be publicly available?

Artificial pancreas: An artificial pancreas will depend on the gastric surgeon placing it. They are available to the surgeons but they must be first tested to make sure that is the correct one for you. It takes some time to find the correct pancreas. A common situation is the removal of a very low functioning kidney and replacement with a kidney and pancreas transplant.

3 to 5 years: Since the FDA published draft guidance for artificial pancreas research was released clarifying the research necessary for FDA approval, research has accelerated. There are numerous academic research centers studying this. Trials moved from in hospital to outpatient over this past summer. Ed Damiano PhD hopes to have a device on the market by the time his son goes to college in 2018.
